Jewellery care

All items that are made by Katiuska's Couture are made with a selection of metals including Gold plated, Silver plated, Brass, Stainless steel and Sterling Silver.

To enhance the longevity of your jewellery, keep away from dust and water, avoid spraying perfumes or chemicals around the item and if you are applying cream or makeup, always allow to dry before putting the jewellery on and keep in a cool and dry place.

I do not recommend wearing your jewellery when swimming in a pool as the harsh chlorine chemicals will cause damage and discoloration. This also applies when swimming in the sea as you will be exposing your precious pieces to sand, which is silica and very abrasive.

I also recommend that you remove your jewellery when having a shower or a bath.

I recommend that you always store your jewellery individually, either in a pouch or box for protection, to avoid any scratches and to prevent the chains from tangling.

To help keep your items sparkly for longer, always polish with a soft fiber jewellery cloth :)

Gold and Silver plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold or silver onto the surface of another metal, most often copper. Plated metals naturally tarnish over time. Tarnishing and discoloration are caused by oxidation. They react with the metal causing it to eventually wear down and tarnish, which is caused from the metal reacting to moisture and sulfur in the air. To reduce the effect of wear, gently wipe jewelry with soft polishing cloth and store in a cool and dry place.

Stainless steel is a highly durable metal and does not rust or oxidize, allowing it to withstand the wear and tear of everyday activities. If your jewellery loses its sparkle, all you need to do is use a bit of mild liquid soap and warm water to clean it. Stainless steel is completely recyclable, and many stainless steel products today are likely to be made from mostly recycled material.

Sterling Silver is an alloy made from pure silver and other trace metals, usually copper. Sterling silver has properties that cause it to tarnish including too much exposure to air. Please don’t panic, Sterling Silver can tarnish, however, it is an easy fix. You can return to that beautiful shine finish easily when you follow a few simple steps. Please store your pieces properly, either in a jewellery pouch or in an air tight bag and in a cool and dark place. Polish your jewellery regularly using a fiber cloth and please refrain from using any chemicals on the jewellery as this can cause damage. You can also clean your jewellery with a mild soap and water solution.

Vermeil is a gold finished material that is composed of a thick layer of gold over Sterling Silver.
